I have enjoyed being on the forum so far, but hadn’t found a place for those currently in RCIA to chat in general about how their journey has been so far.

I was not raised religiously, however in college started to attend mass with some friends. I have been going to the Catholic church on and off for about 5 or 6 years and excited about becoming a full member of the church this coming spring.

Please feel free to share your current experiences, questions and comments about the program in your area! I found Cathlolic Answers, EWTN and these forums as a great resource and I hope you will too

God Bless!

Hi, STL girl! 👋

I’m also in RCIA. We started in October and run through the middle of April. I’m very excited with it, and cannot wait until the Great Vigil.

Me in a nutshell: raised Lutheran, fell out after I was confirmed at age 14 (mainly because I didn’t know why I was being confirmed in the first place). Left the house at 18, realized I could study other religions without really creating much turmoil. I was fed alot of lies about Catholicism, so I began to investigate. After three years of researching, thinking, praying, realizing Catholicism’s truth, running from it, and finally accepting it; I signed up for RCIA.

The program I’m in is pretty casual, but structured at the same time. We have a text, and reading assignments. We gather each week, where Father talks to us about the reading and explains things (this past week was Sacraments, for example). Then we get into groups and discuss based on a question Father gives that is related to the reading and talk. Annnnnd Q&A time, of course.

Our welcoming candidates/accepting into catechumenate Mass is approaching. I’m giddy!

Welcome to the club or should I say the family. No you are not alone … there are plenty of people in RCIA … hopefully we will all be confirmed and be with Christ’s bride forever. I look at RCIA as being inside the womb, confirmation/first communion as birth … and just the beginning of our lives as young (since we are new to the Church) Catholics.

I’m in RCIA right now as well. I come from Southern Baptist/Christian Reformed churches. I have always been interested in the Catholic Church, but only now at the age of 44 am I proceeding with conversion. I love it and I love the feeling of peace and happiness I have that was not there before I began this journey.

Strange because after attending my first Mass just before starting RCIA a couple weeks later … I noticed the same thing. I felt peace. Like God, the angels, Mary, and the saints, were with me. They are with you all … peace be with you.

At first I could not figure out what I was feeling. But I like the way you put it "Like God, the angels, Mary, and the saints, were with me". It is nice to know they are there!

Congratulations on your becoming a Catholic STL! My
husband is also in RCIA 🙂 He is very much enjoying his
classes. He was born and raised in the German Democratic
Republic. He was also taught that evolution was the only
“truth” out there. He found God on his own and asked me out
of the blue, " how does one become a Catholic? " So, I
told him, and the rest is history 🙂 He had an amazing journey
from believing in evolution to becoming a Christian. He would
ask about God, and read the Bible, and ask me questions, as
well he loves attending Church with me, and he just decided
to open the door to Jesus. His enthusiasm is nice:) My mom
helped me to come back to the True Church by her example.
So, in essence, my husband and I are on a journey together:)
It is absolutely wonderful! It does make you feel light, and feel
really good. all praise and glory goes to God. My sisters and
my brother also helped me alot. Thanks for posting this, and
may all of you here who are in the RCIA and just coming to
know God have a wonderful journey!

RCIA is the highlight of my week! Mass would be… but I haven’t been going to Mass much yet. That’s going to have to change! I just read “The Lamb’s Supper” by Scott Hahn… great book!

Another RCIA candidate here, although I guess in a couple weeks I’ll “graduate” to catachumenate. (Our parishes are doing the Rite of Catacuhmenate the first Sunday of Advent).

I too am very much enjoying the RCIA experience. Unlike many, I really don’t come from any sort of religious background…unbaptized and pretty much unchurched. Much of this is very new stuff for me.

The experience of mass is not, however, “new stuff”. I’ve been attending mass off and on for a long period of time. It is just this year that I decided to take the step that I’ve been coming to for a number of years.

And, like many here, I feel such a sense of peace with this decision. (I keep saying that it’s because the Holy Spirit is no longer having to kick my butt about getting going on this. )

Anyway, blessings and peace to all of us.

Hello everyone! I am so happy for you all who are attending RCIA classes.

I am baptized Catholic, but never had formal religious training after. So I am looking forward to attending classes too. However, my priest told me I am the only one interested in the classes, so I will have to go to another church to attend. Haven’t heard back from them yet.

It will feel strange, I think, to learn from someone who is not my own pastor (whom I like a lot).

Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi everyone!

I’m also going through RCIA. I look forward to the class each week. We started in September. I have tons of questions, but there doesn’t seem to be enough time during class or at least an apropriate time w/o holding up the class. The 90 minutes seem to fly by for me!
I have asked questions about what is said during RCIA and I think one question has been deleted. Not sure what I said wrong. (sorry to the other forum members for that.)

I’d love to have a place to talk about what’s going on or additional questions after class. :o I just found out the my instructor has email that he regularly checks and will respond to. 😃

Hi… I’m in RCIA right now… last Sunday was the Rite of Welcoming Mass. Looking forward to being able to go to my first confession in the next few months. I have yearned for that for over a year… I know that an act of perfect contrition gives me forgiveness from my mortal sins, but hearing the words from the priest will be wonderful. I know what you guys mean by a sense of peace. There was that moment when I was just reading about the Catholic Church to see what they believed because a good friend impressed me with his relationship to God… as I was reading about the Eucharist, I knew then that I had in my heart just become Catholic and could not receive communion in any other church… and that same day I was healed from an addiction. BTW, I am a widow of four years and will always kinda wonder if my hubby wasn’t pulling some strings up there to send me in the right direction.
