I understand this question to mean “Do you have any problems?” I don’t remember the older generations (grandparents…) using this kind of question as a regular sort of conversation starter.
Why does our culture so often lead with the question "Are you okay?"
People have more problems now than in the past?
People really and usually are concerned about the other person?
People are insecure and want to be asked the same question back?
People have less shared things to talk about?
People seek drama and like to know other’s struggles?
