How about “Yes! I have been saved through grace according to Ephesians 2:8 but I’m also BEING saved according to 1 Cor 1:18 and I hope to endure to the end so that I SHALL be saved as Jesus himself said we must do in Matthew 10:22. According to the bible then, salvation isn’t a one time event but a process where we must ‘work out our salvation with fear and trembling’.(Phil 2:12)”

Read over Matthew chapter 7, they might understand it to mean something different and take it out of context. But judging the hearts of men is reserved for God.

Everyone has posted many great way of going about it. Thank you all!

When they as me if I am “saved” I respond yes. Their next question is followed up with “when did you come to know Christ?” I reply that I come to know Christ everyday and every Mass that I partake in Holy Eucharist. I feel his forgiveness in Confession and I am blessed to actually sit in the RP of him during adoration.

👍👍👍

I’m sure that they can have little to say in response to such a beautiful expression of Truth.

=JonNC;10263740]I agree. The phrase itslef often comes from the “decision theology” folks. The emphasis seems to ignore Ephesians 2:8.
Hi Jon,

Eph. 2:8 " For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God"

DENIES all of the following:

John 3:5; Mt. 10:1-8; Mt 16: 15-19; Jn.14:16-17; Jn. 17:15-19; Jn.20:19-23** and these:

**Acts.20: 28 **“Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God [SINGULAR] which he obtained with the blood of his own Son.”

Mark 16:14-15 & Mt. 28:18-20“**At length he appeared to the eleven as **they were at table: and he upbraided them with their incredulity and hardness of heart, because they did not believe them who had seen him after he was risen again. And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” & “And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.”

**John 10: 16 **And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.

And from the same book and author:

Eph. 4: 1-7
“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body [WHICH MEANS ONE CHURCH] and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, Meaning only One set of beliefs] one baptism, one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

**Eph. 3: 9-10 ** “And to make all men see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; that through the church [singular] the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose which he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord

**Romans 13: 2 **“Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.”

The singular truth [as truth must be] lays in the entire bible; one is at great risk relying on a single culled passage.

My friend, The “faith” referenced in your passage implies actually KNOWING, accepting and living ALL of God’s teaching: “the biody of” not just what suits your views.
Continued Blessings,

=Julia Mae;10264002]I’ve been asked the question often. I always say, “yes.” And then go one about my business.
BTW, my home and telephone, are things I pay for. I don’t think anyone gets to monopolize my time in them with their own agenda. I close doors and hang up.
The Church teaches:

Yes I am saved and I’m still working on my salvation:)

I don’t disagree.

But all kidding aside…I think it best to keep the answer simple.
Unless you are in a state of unrepentant mortal sin…you are saved…at that moment…and therefore a simple “yes” is perfectly acceptable. And if you are busy this is the way to go. If you want have the time and are inclined…then add the “I am Catholic” to the end and see what their reaction is. Then go fro there.

But not all catholics are saved, would you agree? It’s not because they are catholic but because they do not know and live for God. I grew up catholic but never really made the connection to Jesus until I went to a protestant college and heard the gospel. I think there are probably lots of people like that out there. Or do you think they are saved just because they were raised catholic?

a wonderful question and I’m sure it would make a wonderful thread but it is kind of off topic when it comes to this one. Let’s try to stay on topic. Thanks

Anne,
I do not doubt what you say here, but my response was to a specific question asked by a specific person about what I would do in a specific situation. It was not intended as a generalization on the state of Catholics as a whole…and should not be read as such.

Beyond that - As Aiden has said - this might be a good topic for it’s own thread…Though in truth - I don’t know of anyone who would assert that all Catholics are saved, just because they are (technically) Catholic.

As its says right here on this site:

What To Say

“Are you saved?” asks the Fundamentalist. The Catholic should reply: “As the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5–8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:18, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9–10, 1 Cor. 3:12–15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11–13).”

I say:

“You bet your a** I am!!! Jesus died for me, I have been baptized into the ONLY Church Jesus Christ founded, and I am faithful to Christ’s teachings! Perhaps I should be asking YOU if you are saved???”
