Arguella and Precatechumenate

On another thread, someone mentioned Arguella and the Precatechumenate. I had never really heard of either before. I did a little research and learned that there are thousands of communities worldwide, and that the Statutes were approved by the Pope in 2008. What I want to know is, what makes this movement distinct? What goes on typically in this movement?
