Hello,
I came across a youtube video that claimed to prove that Jesus is a fake. The video went on to claim the many other gods did all the things that Jesus did. Born of a virgin, miracles, born n December 25th, died and was resurrected on the third day, etc. Some of the gods the video mention were Horus from Egypt, Krishna from India, Dionysus of Greece and Mithra of Persia.

The premise is to show that man created god. And that the ancients worshiped the sun and that over time the movement of the sun was personified into gods people believe in.

Let me say that I am a believer in Jesus Christ and in his Church. The Catholic Church.
My question; how can I respond to these types of challenges to my faith?

What you are asking would require a pretty in depth analysis of ancient mythology and religious traditions. They are out there on the internet if you want to search them. Here is one: Debunking the Jesus/Horus Connection

For brevity sake I will just address the birth stories:
  • Horus was said to be born when Isis retrieved all the dismembered body parts of her murdered husband Osiris and became pregnant in the “usual” manner. It’s a little more graphic than that but you get the point.
  • Mithra is described as being born out of a rock.
  • While Krishna is described as being conceived without relations (via divine mental transmission) his mother was most definitely not a virgin, she already had 7 children before giving birth to Krishna.
  • As Catholics we don’t actually claim Jesus was born on December 25th, its simply the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
As you can see there is very little in common between the Gospels and other ancient religious traditions. People who claim there are similarities either are misinformed or are deliberately deceitful.

The problem is that many people have found a way to make money by making these outlandish claims. Many of the supposed “correlations” are either completely superficial or outright false yet people believe them because they want to and not because they are true. Another issue is that is rarely addressed by these hucksters is that some of these myths and stories of historical figures were changed after these cultures came in contact with Christianity. Thus some claimed similarities show that these cultures copied Christianity and not the other way around.
