I’m looking for a good book(s) on the Arian Heresy. It sounds like an incredibly trying time in Church history with from what I’ve heard 90%+ of bishops going over to the heresy. Along with sounding incredibly interesting, it also sounds like how faithful Catholics dealt with it would have a lot to teach and help us in modern times.

Thanks and God Bless.

33 Doctors of the Church by Fr. Christopher Rengers gives biographies on our greatest Saints. The first 10 or so combatted the Arian heresies. It was a good read about the personal struggles of each Saint.

Thanks. The 33 Doctors of the Church was a book I already had my eyes on, just placed my order!

Hello Dan,

You may also want to check out “The Great Heresies” by Hillaire Belloc.

Oremus pro invicem,

I definitely have to read more of his works. Right now I’m enjoying (greatly enjoying) a copy of his “Cautionary Tales” checked out of library. Once I work through some other books, I’ll have to pick up more Belloc.

Hello,

You might want to look at Blessed John Henry Newman’s first work (1833) “The Arians of the Fourth Century”:

Here’s a review that gives an overview of it:

Also, Fr. Charles Conner did a series called “The Great Heresies”. Number 5. “Heresies of the Fourth and Fifth Centuries, Part One” covers Arianism.

Jesus, God and man,
imprisoned by love in Thy most holy Sacrament,
have mercy upon us.
– Blessed John Henry Newman, December 22, 1851

Tú y yo sabemos por la fe que oculto en las especies sacramentales está Cristo,
ese Cristo con su Cuerpo, con su Sangre, con su Alma, y con su Divinidad,
prisonero de amor.
