Hello,

I have been baptized into the Armenian Apostolic Church and have received the Eucharist and Confirmation at Etchmiadzin Cathedral. I was baptized there as a child. My mom is Armenian Catholic while my dad is Armenian Apostolic. I have been raised Catholic all my life and I believe in all the doctrines of Catholicism and I believe that the Catholic Church is the one true Church of Jesus Christ. I go to Latin Mass and I go to Catholic confession and communion(I read that this is valid for people baptized in the Orthodox Church). I want to officially become Catholic but I am scared to tell my parents about my desire to convert officially to the Church. They know about my love and extreme devotion to the Catholic Church but they may feel that it is scrupulous and unnecessary to convert the Catholicism because of the small differences between the Churches. It is possible that they may not allow me to have an official conversion. Despite my extreme love and devotion to the Catholic Church and its teachings, am I putting my salvation at risk if I do not formally convert to the Catholic Church? Thank You.

It is best to ask your Armenian Catholic priest about this, but IMHO, you are OK, especially with your parents opposed to a transfer. However, if your mother is Armenian Catholic, why would she be opposed to your enrolling in the Armenian Catholic church? It should be a simple transfer from Armenian Apostolic, no?

You would by default be brought into the Armenian Catholic Church. Would your parents be upset with this or is it that you wish to come into the Latin Church?

How old are you that “allowed” is an issue?

As a practical matter, you already are Catholic, even though you haven’t formally professed.

If you did, you would be enrolled in the Armenian Catholic Church, and could be a parishioner at any Catholic Church of any right. Once enrolled there, you could apply for change of ritual, which is rather straightforward and quick these days.
