From the programming note:

From the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, His Holiness Karekin II and His Holiness Aram I commemorate the Armenian Genocide Centennial with a special liturgy featuring choirs from Armenian Churches around the nation.

Based on the names, is this not the Armenian Apostolic (Oriental Orthodox) Church - and thus not a Catholic liturgy? But it is being celebrated at a Catholic church?

Lately it seems the only thing separating our Churches are separation… the last Armenian Catholic Divine Liturgy I attended, all the books were from the Armenian Apostolic Church… the only difference was the inclusion of the Pope in the prayers for bishops… I think they might have - I might be mistaken - even mentioned the two Catholicoi in addition to the Armenian Catholic one… praise be to God!

Yes to both questions.

It was lovely! EWTN even had an Armenian Orthodox priest as commentator, which was a pleasant surprise. The only thing I found a little odd was that they did not use the High Altar under the baldichino.

I could be wrong, but I believe this is the first time EWTN broadcast an Orthodox Liturgy, other than Liturgies the Popes have attended on their travels.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank you for posting this thread. :tiphat: I rarely watch EWTN and so would otherwise not have known the event was being televised live.

You’re welcome, Malphono! I’m glad you were able to watch. 🙂
