Article I read in mainstream press even seems blasphemous. I am interested in the pro-life movement, I read this article in the “Irish Times” which is not what I would call your fringe left-wing press.

See, I think this article should have a rebuttal to it in case, someone ever pulled this on someone.

Having read the article, I think the author makes a weak case but I think it is an article and argument that people should be aware of. The author, an associate professor at Simpson University in Iowa says that this still doesn’t mean these Saints were “pro-choice”.

I know, I’m posting sort of vague thoughts on this but any feedback is welcomed.

The article does not in any way affect my solid pro-life views.

Lastly, I hope it’s not too “offensive” just to post this.

Sheerest nonsense. Read the First Century AD Didache on abortion.

I read the comments too. Perhaps this was from old texts from Ireland, but that would have been one country and perhaps some in part before Ireland was widely proselytized. Also, we seek to be in communion with Rome, Rome gives us our guidance ultimately, the Vatican. This all may have been during some rather dark periods for some of Europe, dark ages, medieval times, etc.

Okay, Simpson College from the internet is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. So, that says a bit from where they might be coming from.

Saints once did abortions – it was a lesser sin than oral sex

One of the downsides of free speech and free press, is total disrespect of morals and reason and common sense, can be violated at will.

“The saint shares her name with an important Celtic goddess and there are many legends and folk customs associated with her.”

She is mentioned in the article. Also, she lived a very long time ago, around 500 AD. I can’t even imagine what Ireland was like back then. Also, as stated, “shares her name” etc.

I like Braveheart, the movie and William Wallace apparently lived from 1270-1305 and this above was way before even that.

The press often writes disrespectful and blasphemous stuff. Just another day at the office for them.

As for these alleged “miracles”, given the state of medical practice and records at the time, we have no idea if these women were even pregnant to begin with; and if they were pregnant, they may well have miscarried naturally with no “miracle” involved.
