What an interesting article, and I agree.
We are to be in the world not of the world.
On the one hand we are called to a poverty of spirit (we need not all wear hair shirts but St Thomas More is a great example).

On the other hand, while the value of the widow’s mite might be more both to her, and to God, the Church also does rely on wealthier people as well to survive and to undertake its work around the world (not least to pay priests!).

After all, Jesus Himself had His own ministry supported materially by (seemingly) wealthy women like Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Susanna.

I think the point ultimately is not to be so attached to money or what it can bring, that it comes to matter more than anything else
