As we were taught in public speaking training, when in doubt, speak to the majority of the listeners. In the parish on Sunday morning there are far more adults than children (this holds true for all of the English language Masses).

Is it the tone or the content that seems aimed too low?

Is it possible that he’s trying to aim the content to the appropriate level, but is confusing ‘appropriate tone’ in the attempt?

So, are you certain that the context is aimed too low for the majority of the congregation? (Not just you, mind you, but the perception that the priest has of the catechetical maturity of his entire congregation.)
 
Having been employed at this parish for a very long time, I am pretty good these things. Yes, there has been one priest who speaks down to the congregation in homilies.

I hope no one else has to be subjected to such, but, it does happen at one place on planet earth. When I attend that Mass, I offer it up.
