I am not alledging literal understanding of eating to Peter’s words, you are. I have no evidence for something that did not happen or was not said.
But the CC and thE OC do have the evidence of the meaning of those passages.

So if you have no evidence for what you are saying or concluding…what is the basis of your statement? Which is what I am asking you to provide…🤷

Is that like you asking for evidence when I say I look out my window and say I do not see a reindeer ?

Does the CC or OC say that in John 6 discourse the apostles understood it as transubstantiation (CC) /and or real presence by any undisclosed means (OC) ?

I could understand at some point later, but not here in John 6, which is what we are discussing.

CHRYS. For if it was possible without harvest or fruit of the earth, or any such thing, to preserve the lives of the Israelites of old for forty years, much more will He be able to do this with that spiritual food, of which the manna is the type. He knew how precious a thing life was in men’s eyes, and therefore repeats His promise of life often; just as the Old Testament had done; only that it only offered length of life, He life without end. This promise was an abolition of that sentence of death, which sin had brought upon us. These things said He in the synagogue, as He taught in Capernaum; where many displays of His power took place. He taught in the synagogue and in the temple, with the view of attracting the multitude, and as a sign that He was not acting in opposition to the Father.

BEDE. Mystically, Capernaum, which means beautiful town, stands for the world: the synagogue, for the Jewish people. The meaning is, that our Lord has, by the mystery of the incarnation, manifested Himself to tile world, and also taught the Jewish people His doctrines.
Thank you SM

Has anyone ever put together all of Augustine’s comments on the eucharist? I have see folks on both sides even 3 sides of real presence claim his quotes as legitimizing.

Hi, Syro and others,

I’m trying to collect some of the writings of the ECF and I was thinking it might be very helpful for me to put “dates” of either their writings or approximate dates of the life. I’m getting confused by some of these guys who have similar names and having a date can help me with a glance know if I’m getting the person that’s being quoted. I’ll understand if it’s not so easy or helpful for you to add them.

Thanks, and God bless!!

Rita

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before. I’m not aware of any articles, but there are several references to “Separated Brethren” in the Haydock Bible notes. That was the mid 19th century. A Google books search through public domain sources may turn up more, although I haven’t tried it. I am putting a link to a search of the haydock1859.tripod.com site with the notes that will show you the specific references.

Yes, the CC teaches that the apostles understood John 6 as being about the Real Presence and no, the CC does not teach that the apostles understood it as happening through Transubstantiation.

Yes, the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving (eucharist) ! Halleluiah ! His resurrection is the Father’s stamp of eternal approval of Calvary. No need to re-present the Sacrifice and pray that it be “acceptable and pleasing to the Father” anymore. We know it is ! Thank you Lord for such a sure praise offering. Thanksgiving, thanksgiving, thanksgiving.
You can’t eat “thanksgiving”. You can eat Jesus’ flesh and blood: “Take and eat. This is My Body”. Jesus said we need to eat his flesh and drink his blood. Why do you say, “No we don’t?”
