As a Protestant, the "Catholic 'idolatry'" point is erroneous

I only care about the truth and express it on a daily basis. Good or bad, in season or out of season.

And It helps to read entire posts and not just cherry pick one area that you find to be controversial.
Well I’ll cherry pic this one, because after reading your posts on this it seems to me that you are able to read someones mind about how the think and feel about God and Mary and the saints. Are you expecting us to believe you have some keen insight about what these “Rosary Catholics” actually believe?

No, I’m simply saying that if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is very likely a duck.

Mary doesn’t personally answer prayers, she isn’t out there finding your kid when he or she gets lost, etc, etc. I’m not the least bit confused and I’m not being pompous either. I love Mother Mary but Glory to God and He alone.

AGAIN, these cultural Catholics were a huge stumbling block for me as a convert. I sort of resent them because I could have been Catholic a long time ago had they not turned me off so badly on the Church.

This is a problem. It’s interesting that if you talk to converts or watch shows like the Journey Home, they always tend to say Mary is the biggest and final stumbling block. And it does not have to be that way if the cultural Catholics would stop perpetuating a falsehood.

All this could be refreshed in the Sunday bulletin. If the Church wants to evangalize, it needs to start with the Catholics.
A simple blurb about a church teaching, church doctrine, etc. in the bulletin could definitely be helpful especially for those looking to the church for answers, be it a neophyte learning the ropes or perhaps the well-versed scholar might have learned something new.

And this should be done throughout all denominations, because education is especially important to form well-rounded adults.

There is a whole propaganda machine against Catholic doctrines regarding Mary. There’s everything from Catholics hold her higher than Jesus to Mary wasn’t a virgin to Mary was rejected by Jesus.

Why? All to contradict everything about the Catholic Church and fill their own pews.

I think that has more to do with it than those who haven’t studied their faith.

You’re right, this can be found through interviews on The Journey Home. These converts come to see that they were fed a narrative with a particular agenda.

EXACTLY! 👍 So simple. Don’t know why it hasn’t been implemented.

You have to mix it with speaking with practicing Catholics and looking up the faith for yourself. I would definitely agree that not enough is done to educate non-Catholics about doctrines of the Catholic Church. We’re lucky to live in the Internet age now where one can simply click and view the Church’s documents and read up on the doctrines.

In any denomination, though, converts will always be more active and more zealous than cradle. I know plenty of Evangelicals who know nothing about what they believe or why. People tend to assume a “default” position on their faith, and unless you become interested in studying theology, it becomes less likely that you’ll simply go and seek out what other groups believe.

This is especially true when reading those tasteless"Jack Chick" tracts that somehow are still circulating…comparing Catholics to “idol-worshipping satanists” and the like…

I’ve always wonder how much of the appeal of the “Chick Tracts” is in the name itself. I mean, Jack Chick is not a name you can easily forget.

As an artist, I can safely say that the drawings are as horrendous as the lies they tell. And I found one in my university’s bathroom sink counter and I couldn’t help but toss it in the trash.
