I’m sorry, I am just so happy that I have to share this with y’all. I am in the process of converting, and pregnant with our second child. I have really been convicted of the sin of using birth control to space our children. I had not mentioned this to my husband since it is a non-issue currently, and was putting it off really. He had been talking a lot about getting vasectomy after this baby was born, and then switched to wanting me to get those coil inserts that close off your fallopian tubes…to which I said no way!
Well, just the other day he started talking about how he loved it when I was pregnant, and how excited he was for another baby, and how he should just keep me pregnant, and keep giving me babies…no pills. He told me that he really wanted lots of kids, but he sometimes gets scared about finances and how to take care of all of them…but that I needed to be strong and just not let him do anything to keep us from having more babies, when I asked him how many babies he said…“as many as God wants to give us”.

I am shocked and confused, I don’t know if this is truly how he feels or if he’s just saying it, or if he’ll change his mind, but its WAY better than what he has been saying. And it makes me soooo happy! I feel like this is an answered prayer!

My husband has said things like this in the past few years, since our conversion. He gets a bit scared of the idea of my having to go through childbirth again, but he finds the idea of me being pregnant with his child very romantic. He is very amorous over the whole idea, and even when we agree that it is best to wait for another pregnancy, he still has a twinkle in his eye when he jokes that a surprise pregnancy would not be an unhappy thing. 😉
In my opinion, other than times when a couple has dramatically serious reasons to avoid pregnancy, like being destitute or the wife having serious health problems, this attitude of pleasure at the thought of his wife being pregnant by him is the norm. In our modern world, and especially in our culture (I am in the U.S.), many men have been conditioned in a way that suppresses that pride and pleasure at this natural miracle, but it still comes out occasionally, and some men decide to throw off that conditioning all together. 👍
I think it is great. Wanting children in marriage is the healthy and sane norm. It warms my heart to know that other husbands out there feel that way, too.

Congrats on all the upcoming exciting events! It’s a beautiful time in your life, one you’ll enjoy looking back on.
I’ve had my days where I’ve told the Lord that He’ll have to change my husband’s mind in order to move forward with ‘this’, whatever it was. (Likely hubby has prayed the same about me too! lol) Thank you for your testimony today and welcome home.

Wow, that is awesome! I am only 27 years old and my wife and I have already had 3 children in the span of 6 years of being married. We love it. It does become hard when thinking about more children and believe me, the topic of birth control and contraception will creep up again in the future, maybe even leading to more fights but remember the devil loves being a part of those conversations too. After your next child I would seriously dive deep into Natural Family Planning. Good luck with everything!

Lovely - thanks for sharing that. I think my husband would agree he loves me being pregnant !

Wonderful news Honour! I can’t say I share your hubby’s position (I’d like to keep my wife un-pregnant for awhile 🙂 ) but I can definitely relate to both the fear of having more children, and the joy of having them.

2368 A particular aspect of this responsibility concerns the regulation of procreation. For just reasons, spouses may wish to space the births of their children. It is their duty to make certain that their desire is not motivated by selfishness but is in conformity with the generosity appropriate to responsible parenthood. Moreover, they should conform their behavior to the objective criteria of morality:
When it is a question of harmonizing married love with the responsible transmission of life, the morality of the behavior does not depend on sincere intention and evaluation of motives alone; but it must be determined by objective criteria, criteria drawn from the nature of the person and his acts, criteria that respect the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love; this is possible only if the virtue of married chastity is practiced with sincerity of heart.156
2369 "By safeguarding both these essential aspects, the unitive and the procreative, the conjugal act preserves in its fullness the sense of true mutual love and its orientation toward man’s exalted vocation to parenthood."157
2370 Periodic continence, that is, the methods of birth regulation based on self-observation and the use of infertile periods, is in conformity with the objective criteria of morality.158 These methods respect the bodies of the spouses, encourage tenderness between them, and favor the education of an authentic freedom. In contrast, “every action which, whether in anticipation of the conjugal act, or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible” is intrinsically evil:159
Thus the innate language that expresses the total reciprocal self-giving of husband and wife is overlaid, through contraception, by an objectively contradictory language, namely, that of not giving oneself totally to the other. This leads not only to a positive refusal to be open to life but also to a falsification of the inner truth of conjugal love, which is called upon to give itself in personal totality. . . . The difference, both anthropological and moral, between contraception and recourse to the rhythm of the cycle . . . involves in the final analysis two irreconcilable concepts of the human person and of human sexuality.160
2371 "Let all be convinced that human life and the duty of transmitting it are not limited by the horizons of this life only: their true evaluation and full significance can be understood only in reference to man’s eternal destiny."161
2372 The state has a responsibility for its citizens’ well-being. In this capacity it is legitimate for it to intervene to orient the demography of the population. This can be done by means of objective and respectful information, but certainly not by authoritarian, coercive measures. The state may not legitimately usurp the initiative of spouses, who have the primary responsibility for the procreation and education of their children.162 In this area, it is not authorized to employ means contrary to the moral law.

I don’t know if that is necessarily the case. There are many serious reasons to avoid pregnancy that are not as dramatic, and I wouldn’t blame a couple at all for being upset if pregnancy happened while they were trying to avoid for those reasons. What if they wanted the wife to be a stay-at-home mom but couldn’t afford it yet? What if one or both were still in school? What if their youngest child was still quite young and demanding?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++

God’s Spirit is in my heart,
He has called me and set me apart.
This is what I have to do,
what I have to do.

He sent me to give the Good News to the poor,
Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more,
Tell blind people that they can see,
And set the downtrodden free
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom of God has come,
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom of God has come.

Just as the Father sent me,
So I’m sending you out to be
My witnesses throughout the world,
The whole of the world.

Don’t worry what you have to say,
Don’t worry because on that day
God’s Spirit will speak in your heart,
Will speak in your heart.
