In our diocese, like most in the US, Ascension is transferred to Sunday so Thursday is not obligatory in any way. But the FSSP community here with the Extraordinary Form is celebrating the Ascension both days - today as the regular feast day (but clearly marked as non-obligatory), and on Sunday as an “external solemnity.” They do this for some other transferred major feasts too, like Corpus Christi I think.
