I am one of those who did not attend Church today. The Ascension of Our Lord is not a Holy Day of Obligation in the Arch Diocese of Los Angeles. Had any Church in my area put on an extra mass around noon or so, I would have attended.

But last night I got home at midnight as usual. After the usual cat care, Vigil prayers, cat adoration, Novenas, reading, veneration of cats, and Compline prayers; I went to sleep about 2 AM as usual.

I got up at 10 AM as usual, missing all the 6 AM and 8 AM masses, also as usual. 😦

It would be so nice to find a weekday Noon Mass within a reasonable driving distence.

I went today and my co-worker said that this day used to be an obligation day. Now, it is moved to Sunday.

I can’t go today, either. There are no masses in my area tonight.

“Regarding the Ascension of the Lord, the ecclesiastical Provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and the State of Nebraska have retained its celebration on the proper Thursday; all other Provinces have transferred this solemnity to the Seventh Sunday of Easter.”…from the Paulist Press Ordo, 2007

I went, but I’m lucky - my parish has a Mass at 12:15 every day except Saturday. Today’s also my Saint Day, so today’s Mass did double duty! 👍
