This is my fourth time being pregnant during Ash Wednesday/Good Friday. I know it is not advisable for me to fast as a pregnant woman in her third trimester, but I was wondering… do any of you have some ideas or suggestions about an equal sacrifice I can participate in? What have you other moms done in the past?

Thanks!

Try giving up something that you are allowed to eat but doesn’t hurt to give up, examples include chocolate, coffee (if you are still drinking it, going from one cup to none isn’t that hard.)

Another thing could be to give up some of your time to help a worthy cause, church related function, or just praying more.

Yup! I gave up the special sweets that were wonderful but unnecessary. 😉

Eat simple yet nourishing foods. Maybe do without the salt in your food? Or the salad dressing, or ketchup or whatever little “extras” you use to make the food more appealing. Cut out all junk food and sweets, too, and eat fruit instead. If you have a few favorite foods, avoid those and eat alternatives instead (if you love pasta, prepare rice instead, for instance).

That’s what I’ll be doing as far as food goes. And then of course, as far as other non-food sacrifices go, they sky’s the limit. Give up TV, radio, internet, secular reading, chatting on the phone, complaining, and add extra spiritual reading, prayer, kindness, and thankful thoughts. 👍

I’m probably just going to eat healthy and drink LOTS of water…which is what I’m supposed to do everyday, but I don’t always. 😊

It seems I’m always pregnant during lent or breastfeeding (this year, pregnant). I just do what other posters have already said. Three meals and just water, nothing fancy or especially yummy. It seems that no matter what I do, I always crave what I can’t have. Just like meat on Friday’s. I prepare a lot of meals without meat but when I’m supposed to abstain, I can’t seem to find anything that sounds good but a steak:rolleyes:

Thanks for the help and suggestions! I actually sat and thought really hard, and there has only been one year since my 2002 conversion (2004) that I wasn’t either pregnant or nursing! I always feel kind of guilty about it.

I definitely won’t eat sweets/special foods, but I like the idea of drinking nothing but water and not adding ketchup/sauces/salt etc. It will make me feel like I am fasting in my own way.

I’m also going to give up my internet hour and make it an hour of prayer instead.

Thanks so much!

Here are some ideas, like what others have said:
  1. Eat healthy/nourishing food trying to choose foods that you don’t like, or like very little (basically eat because you need to, without the pleasure, it might depend on how morning sickness tolerates this, though)
    if not
  2. Eat boring healthy plain food that you can tolerate, without anything special, no special treats, less of what you like, more of what you don’t like (that you can tolerate).
  3. Drink plenty of water, and milk if you need the calcium, but no special drinks.
  4. Give up other things you enjoy doing, non food related (media related items are a good place to start).
