I have peace in my sacrificial penance. This is a good time of year, but I do find it hypocritical how people are so happy right now. Yes, it is beautiful and godly to be inspired and to want to shout that from the mountain top, but we should be the exact opposite: we are supposed to be sorry, and asking for forgiveness, “Begin to lament, to mourn, to weep.” - James 4.9. Who goes to someone who he has trespassed against, with this high energy and grin?

Those people will be singing a different tune when they realize they have been backwards, and are not righteous enough to fast for a month and a half.

And yes, I WAS very upset, but that was just a misunderstanding on my part, and I am very glad I made this thread so I know better now. I thought the universal church was not offering the host, but if I am one of the few parishes who does not, then I don’t really mind anymore.
You know, you’re exactly right! I was ignorant of that, I barely learn it in my Catholic school at all. Here Catholicism is so poorly taught, it’s an absolute disgrace. Barely anyone could reply with the new missal today in my local parish (and we’ve had it since September) yet everyone went for communion. I wonder just how many were actually eligible.

It may be relevant or not, but what was read out today for us was from Matthew 6:

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

In the same way, the ones who are treating the season correctly may not neccesarily be the ones to show their inner selves.

👍 I have been thinking of this verse constantly today.

I might have a problem with the deadly sin of pride, but that will not stop my prayers throughout the day for the Church, and Satan’s invitation into it today.
Thank Goodness.

I was actually troubled by writing that last part all day! It was likely a loss of tact on my part. I am hoping it was only holy perturbrance, but alas I am no saint.

Realise that asking someone to rid of pride is never an insult. But, a reciprocal reminder of myself as well. What’s good for the goose is good the gander.

🙂

Don’t be troubled! You were just looking out for my spirit 🙂
