Asked to be an EMHC

Are there problems/circumstances with the distribution of Holy Communion that requires the addition of another EMHC at your church. For ex.—without your help–would the Mass be prolonged, to where it would cause a problem.

One of the priests mentioned they are low on EMHC’s because they are taking care of 2 hospitals, the homebound and a few local nursing homes. Also, this parish gets completely full during Mass. We get so many people that all the walls are covered by people leaning against them. If there were no EMHC’s, Mass would go on forever and probably interrupt the time for the noon Mass (with the help of the EMHC’s it takes 1.5 hrs, w/o them it would be a lot longer).

I’m pretty sure that’s why they went up to me. Ever since I came in to Mass on Sunday, the Deacon was paying attention to what I did. You see, I usually come in a nice skirt, with a nice shirt and dresss shoes, with my hair done and make up. This time they caught me in jeans and a dress shirt because I woke up too late and didn’t have time to find something nicer to wear. Since I got to the pew they said hi, shook my hand, and were somewhat looking at what I did. I felt a bit uncomfortable, I thought I was doing something wrong, but I guess they already had planned to ask me?

Anyway, the need of EMHC’s is very obvious at this parish.
