Hi!
I have a friend who’s Greek Orthodox and who is convinced that although assisted suicide is morally wrong, the government doesn’t have the right to make it illegal, becuase there are responsible adults out there who are dying slow painful deaths who just want to have it over with. She says the US government can’t legislate morals, and that as long as they [those who want to die] aren’t hurting anyone else and no one’s forcing it on them, they have a constitutional right to take their own lives under certain circunmstances. I don’t like this, but I’m not sure how to combat it. Any ideas? (If there are any Eastern Christians reading this, any (name removed by moderator)ut on your Church’s teaching on this issue would be really helpful.) Thanks!
