Greetings;

Are there any Assyrian/Chaldean Catholic Churches in the East (of the Mississippi)? I believe there are a few in California but I haven’t heard of any in the vicinity of New England. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi George and welcome to the Eastern Catholicism section of CAF. 🙂

We do have parishes in CA of the St. Peter the Apostle Eparchy. In fact we have the first and only Chaldean seminary outside of Iraq here in El Cajon, Seminary of Mar Abba the Great. 👍

If you look on the kaldu.org site you will find a listing of 7 parishes in St. Thomas the Apostle Eparchy based in Detroit, Michigan.
The new diocese was established by Pope John II at the request of the bishops of the Chaldean Church and includes the following nineteen states: California, Arizona, Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
Sadly, our brothers and sisters of these Churches are suffering greatly in their home lands, and continue to emigrate in large numbers. Southern California and the Detroit area have had large numbers of immigrants. With the ongoing struggle I think we cannot predict whether other pockets of these faithful will turn up else where. I’d suggest you use the Contact Us to ask if they know of any mission in your area.

I ran across these, but have to idea if the listings are accurate. (I recall something in the newspaper a couple of years back about about the church in Yonkers, so I presume that one, at least, does exist.)

SAINT THOMAS ASSYRIAN CHURCH E 120 CABOT ST, NEW BRITAIN, CT 06053-2946 (860-223-2121)

MAR MARI APSTLC ASSYRIAN 129 BUENA VISTA AVE, YONKERS, NY 10701-3528 (914-969-8885)

There may be others but I haven’t found any. BTW, the above would be ACoE. The Chaldeans do not have anything in the Northeast.

Well done. 🙂 Mar Mari has an up to date website. Their newsletter and other on line materials are also in English…

(This parish Mar Mari would not in full communion with the Catholic Church, right? I didn’t find more on the St Thomas Church.)

Thanks for the information. I think probably St. Thomas in New Britain, CT is also Assyrian Church of the East so they would not be in communion. I will check it out further though. Although I read on the kaldu site that an Assyrian Church of the East Bishop and his flock came into union about a year ago.

Anyway, thanks.

Sort of,

Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit also serves the Eparchy of St. Thomas in training and Ordaining men to the priesthood.

😉

They live and eat with their Latin brother seminarians, but are trained and educated in the Chaldean Rite.

Greetings in Jesus Christ,

Thanks all for the information. I have found it totally helpful.

On a side note; would anyone know of the source for the Liturgy of Addai and Mari. Fr. Mitch at EWTN says that it is from 65 - 75 AD? Otherwise I could contact the Eparchy of St. Peter or one of the ACoE which have websites.

Thanks again.

George

Greetings;

Thanks to all for your time and generosity. May The Most Holy Trinity bless all of you. Thanks to Vico for the link to the “Hallowing of the Apostles Addai and Mari”.

Pray for our Christian brothers and sisters who are under persecution this day all over the world!

George
