Oh by no means are we doing away with it! I just meant that our congregation was familiar with so few traditional hymns that we’ve been working more of them in. We still do the old favorites though, it is definitely a mix. We are not the only musicians at our church either; our mass (8am) tends to be a bit more traditional (but honestly, it’s really only one or two traditional hymns per week). The other masses are different.

As long as your Priest doesn’t contradict the Gospel, Apostles or basic morality, you are duty bound to give him obedience in the Lord.

This is from a Catholic Answers document:

Does the bishop have an obligation to take action to prevent liturgical abuses?

It is the right of the Christian people themselves that their diocesan bishop should take care to prevent the occurrence of abuses in ecclesiastical discipline, especially as regards the ministry of the word, the celebration of the sacraments and sacramentals, the worship of God, and devotion to the saints (24).

So it seems that we may owe the priest obedience in some matters, but if there are some grave problems in liturgy, then the parishioners don’t have to be obedient to him regarding liturgical abuses (I’m not saying that Nessie’s priest is committing any).

I can appreciate the issues here and don’t have a clue on how to resolve them so I will only offer my personal preference. I don’t sing, period. My preference is for quiet in a Mass, thus, I usually attend an EF low Mass. For music, I look for an EF High Mass.

The operative word is “abuse”. In absence of abuse (musical selection is not an abuse), this is irrelevant.
