Atheists and Paganism in the Church

I have been to a web site called godisimaginary.com/ and there it claims among many things (50 “proofs why there is no god”) that all of the Christian and Jewish stories from Adam and Eve to the virgin birth and the Eucharist are from either pagan myths or other myths that precedde both OT and NT. :bigyikes: My question is how do we refute this? This seems to me to be beyond Protestant’s claims of paganism in the Church, since it includes both them and Jews.

Can someone with more knowledge help me? :confused:

Ok, im assuming you are talking about this tract.

Right off the bat you can notice that there are no citations. That alone is gonna set off my lazy-meter and I probably wouldnt waste my time on it, but if you have some time on your hands heres a very good link that talks about this:

First of all this is not an argument against the Christianity more than some dunderhead emoting that every new Christian artwork should be original.

Second of all you can tell he’s actually never read the story of Horus’ “miraculous conception” or that hes spinning it on purpose to trick people because the story of the virgin birth and Horus’ birth could not be farther apart. His mother Isis is not a virgin and there is an old Egyptian relief showing her hovering over her dead husband’s (Osiris) erect penis. The story goes something like this, Osiris is killed by Set (or Seth) who proceeds to cut Osiris’ body into 14 pieces after Isis takes it back to Egypt. He scattered them throughout the land and after Isis managed to get all but Osiris penis back which had been eaten by fish, so she made a fake penis and had sex with dead Osiris and got pregnant with Horus. So as you can tell we totally ripped it off from the Egyptians:rolleyes:
Nothing in Christianity is original. The pre-Christian God Mithras - called the Son of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity’s weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans.

Pfft, he didnt even bother posting the rest of the accusations!, ill help him out:
  1. Mithra was born of a virgin on December 25th in a cave, and his birth was attended by shepherds.
  2. He was considered a great traveling teacher and master.
  3. He had 12 companions or disciples.
  4. Mithra’s followers were promised immortality.
  5. He performed miracles.
  6. As the “great bull of the Sun,” Mithra sacrificed himself for world peace.
  7. He was buried in a tomb and after three days rose again.
  8. His resurrection was celebrated every year.
  9. He was called “the Good Shepherd” and identified with both the Lamb and the Lion.
  10. He was considered the “Way, the Truth and the Light,” and the “Logos,” “Redeemer,” “Savior” and “Messiah.”
  11. His sacred day was Sunday, the “Lord’s Day,” hundreds of years before the appearance of Christ.
  12. Mithra had his principal festival of what was later to become Easter.
  13. His religion had a eucharist or “Lord’s Supper,” at which Mithra said, “He who shall not eat of my body nor drink of my blood so that he may be one with me and I with him, shall not be saved.”
  14. “His annual sacrifice is the passover of the Magi, a symbolical atonement or pledge of moral and physical regeneration.”
  15. Shmuel Golding is quoted as saying that 1 Cor. 10:4 is “identical words to those found in the Mithraic scriptures, except that the name Mithra is used instead of Christ.”
  16. The Catholic Encyclopedia is quoted as saying that Mithraic services were conduced by “fathers” and that the “chief of the fathers, a sort of pope, who always lived at Rome, was called ‘Pater Patratus.’”

Guys like this are mouthpieces and nothing more.
