The Old Testament Sheol is not the same as the New Testament Gehenna (hell). Sheol as used in Psalms simply refers to the land of the dead, who are buried. This includes the righteous and the unrighteous.

Certainly the unrighteous will never know the presence of God.

What should bar them from Heaven while some of the world’s biggest malefactors believed in Christ as Lord but still killed or did other heinous acts?
