Hey,
I’m Chloe and I am 13 years old. I converted on the 23rd of Febuary and I will be recieved into the church on Easter vigil…
My only problem are my parents. They are athiests and as much as I love and respect them… I wish they could feel the joy that I feel… Maybe they just are not up to it but I feel like it is my duty to help them know Christ… Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks x

Pray for the and respect them. Make your life a witness to your faith.

You are so lucky to have parents who support your conversion despite not being in the religion themselves. I would echo respect them and also to live well and be a blessing to them. If they see how happy you are and what a joy the church is to you they may change their mind.

Be a good example of Christianity. If they see your joy, your calm, and your peace they will wonder what they are missing.

Love them, respect them and give example every day of the light that is within you. Luceat lux vestra. Congratulations on your baptism.
A friend of mine was dying and wanted to go to Lourdes. Her atheist husband took her but she died on the way. He finished the pilgrimage in Lourdes, in her honour, taking her body with him on his return home. He was converted at Lourdes and is now a fine Catholic. So pray to Our Lady for her intercession, I have never seen anything more powerful.

Dear Chloe,
You are a splendid witness to the faith already.
Pray to Saint Philomena, who was also young. She was martyred for her faith and has a miraculous story.
I pray that you will stay strong in your faith and that your parents will see your witness and let it touch their hearts.
God bless.

All you can do is pray for them…if you try and bombard them with religion it will push them away …you cant force them to believe in god…only god can make them believe in him…so pray

In addition to what everyone else said about love, respect and obedience

You need to be prepared to answer questions that they might have, do not be surprised if they challenge you from time to to time on your faith. Make it a daily habit to do some reading on your Catholic Faith every day, or you can listen to some Catholic audiobooks like the ones here
alleluiaaudiobooks.com/

Also, you must never ever allow them to persuade you to sin, even a little venial sin, this is the most powerful witness you have and is a great means of obtaining grace for their conversion.

Last, do not be afraid to invite them unless you believe it will irritate them, a kind invitation like “Lets go to benediction together and then we can go to dinner”) or something to that effect.

I agree that acting according to your walk with God and being an example is best.

One thing I would caution against is assuming your parents aren’t aware of the particulars of your beliefs. In fact, it’s a good rule of thumb not just for religious ideas but all sorts of things. Teens often will discover something and will sometimes treat it as new to everyone instead of just new to him or her. On a much smaller scale than your choice, a teen might discover vegetarianism and then talk to his or her parents about it as if they’d never heard of such a crazy concept.

In short, don’t assume that what you tell your parents about your faith is something of which they are unfamiliar. Be kind and enthusiastic but remember your parents were teens once, too! 😃

Pray a daily rosary for their conversion, offer every day for their conversion through the Morning Offering, offer every Mass for their conversion. When you find small things troubling you, offer them to Jesus for your parents.

My mother converted–of her own initiative–after I did this for two years. I never once mentioned conversion or urged her. The only thing I did was ask her to take me to Mass. Now, she’s brought my father back to Catholicism with her good example. God listens, always. Trust that your prayers WILL be heard!

Also–pray for St. Rita’s assistance. She’s the saint of impossible causes and has helped me–God bless her abundantly–on several occasions. St. Monica is another wonderful ally; her fervent prayer brought about the conversion of her son, St. Augustine.

God bless you!!

Hi Chloe,

Show the Love of Jesus through your actions and you will be a Light for others. We are blessed to have you in the one true faith.

Chloe, You must continue to grow in prayer. You will become a better person in many ways because of it. Remember to first love God. If you don’t love God then you wont love yourself. If you don’t love yourself then you can’t love anyone else. Pray the Rosary. Learn patience and pray a full rosary, that is the four mysteries, daily and others will begin to see the grace of God working inside of you and want to be more like you. You will be an example for others to follow down that narrow path to heaven. Sometimes people you love have to ‘lick the dirt’ to see that they must convert to Christ and his message. Good luck and learn and remember to be continuous in thinking of your growth with the Lord. Chris
