I was under the understanding that the impulse behind unmarried priests had more to do with property rather than gayness. I think one of the problems we have is that a lot of gay folks see the priesthood as a calling – something like “I don’t like women, so god must want me to be a priest” which definately needs to be addressed, but that was never the intent of celibate priesthood.
