Learning to recognize our impulses, and to know when we’re being driven by our impulses, is what is often referred to spiritually as “waking up.” Your question is brilliant, by the way; the wisest sages in history have all asked precisely the same thing. It seems to be a gradual process for most of us. All I can really say is, you need to find a way within yourself to really wrestle with this idea. In spiritual terms, it’s also described as a battle between our human self and our animal nature. The animal side is the going with the flow, impulse driven, slave to our instincts part of us, while the human side is mastering all of that.

Maybe you could give yourself a pre-arranged amount of time to play games, and then when the time is up force yourself to stop 'til next time?🤷

If you think you’re playing too much you are.
Dial it back, and be at peace.
Maybe something like “Holy Spirit, show me where I could be used by for good today”.

i believe that if you have jesus at the centre of your heart, no matter what you do has any bearing because you are willing to give that item up right then and there whenever possible, that being said, i dont want to completely give up video games as i have tried it in the past “for god” and i came back to it because i started living as a monk

Give time to Christ first, video game second. Nothing inherently wrong with playing a video game but it can become a false god. Recommend having a set time for video play, perhaps on Friday night for two hours, or Saturday morning. Turn it off the rest of the week and do something that will help you grow in your faith: vocal prayer, silent meditation, bible study, a good Catholic book etc. Go to Mass…adoration etc. Certainly some time on CAF.

Make a commitment and stick with it.
