Pregnant Woman Slit Open In Attempted Fetus Abduction

**MANOR TOWNSHIP, Pa. – **A pregnant woman was attacked by a woman who tried to cut her fetus from her womb, police in Pennsylvania said Thursday.
Armstrong County District Attorney Scott Andreassi and Lt. Scott Neal of the Pennsylvania State Police announced an arrest Thursday in the attempted homicide case.
Police arrested and charged Peggy Jo Conner, 38, of Ford City, Pa., with the attempted homicide of Valerie Oskin, 30.
Oskin, who was eight months pregnant, was found on Wednesday along a rural road by an person driving a four-wheeler.
The victim had been severely beaten and was in immediate need of medical attention. The passer-by called an ambulance and police to the scene.
Police said the suspect beat the victim on Tuesday. WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh reported that in a statement, Connor said she did not attempt at any time to aid or to obtain medical attention for Oskin.
Andreassi said it appeared from the Connor’s statement that her goal was to get the victim’s unborn child and take it as her own.
Police said that after beating the victim, Connor cut the Oskin’s abdomen in an unsuccessful attempt to get the fetus out.
Oskin was taken via LifeFlight to Allegheny General Hospital where she was being treated for severe injuries. Her condition is unknown.
Oskin’s baby was delivered and appears to be healthy, WPXI reported.
Conner has been charged with criminal attempt-homicide, aggravated assault and aggravated assault of an unborn child and is being held in the Armstrong County Jail.
