Attending a Latin Mass

A few months ago, I attended my first Latin mass. Actually, I didn’t attend the entire mass, just part of it. I was struggling with some problems in my life at the time, and I was driving around looking for a church so I could pray and sort out my thoughts. I stopped at a church which has the latin mass, and I walked in during the middle of mass. I was sort of lost because I had never experienced this type of mass before. I’m in my twenties, so the only link I ever had to the latin mass was through stories from my mom and grandparents. Even though I really couldn’t follow along properly, I found it to be one of the most beautiful experiences this side of heaven. I did not go up for communion because I had arrived too late, and I wasn’t sure of the proper procedure for receiving communion. I have wanted to go back ever since then, but I’ve been a bit hesitant because I’m so unfamiliar with the whole mass. Is there a website or a book that explains the latin mass in full detail??
 
I may be wrong as I have never attended a Latin Mass, but I’ve heard the following: in the missal there is Latin with English next to it (for the many who don’t know it). Did you happen to look at the missal? I think that’s how they do it now.

Once again, I may be wrong, but I think one can receive communion no matter what time they arrive. I’m not too sure though, maybe they can receive as long as its before the consecration. And of course you want to make sure you aren’t in need of confession.

Like I said, I may be wrong about this whole post…lol…someone will be along shortly to answer more adequately I’m sure. 😉

It’s got the Ordo Missae in addition to a little explanation of what’s going on.

Also Lorrie was correct. Most TLMs have red books in the pews or at the door. They are liitle books with the Order of the Mass in Latin and in English. The white books that one often sees at TLMs are Latin/Spanish translations. If you are interested in attending more and getting a missal you can obtain a great one here…

Here and Here are some specific examples, although most any Latin/English missal from before 1962 will work as they will be essentially the same as the Missal of 1962 except with some changes during Holy Week and a few other places.
