Hello,šŸ™‚
Well, the weather kept us from getting back to the Tridentine Mass, too much snow! So, I noticed better roads and asked my Husband if we could go to the ā€œLatinā€ mass. He didn’t give it a moments thought - NO! He thought it was boring, disorganized (there was a fill in priest who didn’t seem to know what to do), he couldn’t understand it, etc. I was stund by how strongly he felt. He also asked me to stop wearing my mantilla fulltime, church only now. He ā€œmissesā€ my hair. I am completely taken aback! Looks like my first time may be my last time!🤷

This is off-topic, I know, but why would you veil outside of Mass? Back in the day when all women always covered their head in church, the covering came off at the church door oftentimes, unless it was a hat they wore home, or the scarf kept their hair in place in the wind or something. Headcoverings outside of church is not a Catholic tradition… Maybe your husband would be more open to the Latin Mass if you just kept the headcovering for Mass. Maybe its just too different for him all the time for whatever reason you are choosing to do that. Maybe the Latin Mass will appeal to him more later. Maybe you can go to a Latin Mass for daily Mass and go to one in English as a family on Sunday. That way you both get your needs met.

Just began attending Latin Mass a few weeks ago and I found a book called ā€œFor the Visitor at Massā€ very helpful. It is produced by Angelus Press, (it is affiliated with SSPX but I attend a diocesean Latin Mass), and provides good guidance. Even my 9 and 8 year old can follow along with it as a guide.

Hello,šŸ™‚
I like your variety of problem solving suggestions. I wish I could attend a ā€œDaily-typeā€ Latin Mass during the week but there isn’t one. If our family is to go to a Latin Mass it has to be on Sunday and it’s important for my husband to have the Mass he prefers. I attend the regular Mass on weekdays and would like the change to Latin on Sundays. Oh, well. God values obedience. No matter where I go I have the joy of receiving Our Lord.

I too am curious why you would wear a veil all the time. Is it a form of personal penance?

many of us wear head coverings, or veils, or something .
some of us do it as a private penance, some as a private devotion…
some because we feel it is historically important… some because they just feel more focused.
and to the other person who asked:
it IS a Catholic devotion… its just a VERY old one. lol

for ME:
in the Bible, in the letters to the church, women are instructed to ā€œcover their head when they prayā€ and a very controversial and argued phrase ā€œbecause of the angelsā€

in one of the earliest documents of the church, discussing women who have converted to Christianity… one of the statements is that they will be given a veil (the phrase means a head covering) if they do not have one, and told to wear it… and if they refuse to wear it they should be informed that it is something that ā€œweā€ do… and if they still refuse to wear it, they should be barred form participating in the community until they do.
because not wearing a hair covering/veil was immodest and against the requirements of the church.

i am also a member of the SCA (a medieval re-enacting group) and ā€œdecent married womenā€ in most times and places of the middle ages did NOT go out with their hair uncovered

so… i started wearing a veil/hat/scarf or something to church, and finally ended up wearing one when i am ā€œin publicā€ i would say…80% of the time. working toward 100%.

i find it helps ME to remember modesty, to keep a prayerful attitude, and its a strong DIS incentive to dress immodestly… or be a bad example.

:)we have a ladies headcovering community on the social forums…

I too believe it is awesome that women wear headcovering in church. It is the out of church thing I was wondering about. I think that is peculiar but there is nothing wrong with being peculiar especially if the result is an increase in virtue. I just wouldn’t promote wearing headcovering in public as a necessary norm for Catholic women in the name of modesty or what not.

Your husband doesn’t like you veiling at mass? What?!

It might not be a bad idea for you to bring tradition to a Novus Ordo. Like kneel to receive communion. You might start something šŸ™‚

What was once the norm is now radical and rebellious! Imagine that 😃

Hello,šŸ™‚
No, my husband just doesn’t care one way or the other. I tried uncovering again but it felt very wrong, so last night I was back with my veil. Only lady out of 100 at our NO mass, but it felt so Right.šŸ‘ So I know what I will be doing!
My husband did Kneel for Communion at our NO Mass and our poor Priest didn’t seem to know what to do! Everyone survived but it was very ackward for all involved. He resolved not to do it again because it freaks people out, so, under obedience we have chosen to stand - we both believe we should be kneeling.
I like what you wrote about norm becomes abnormal and reverse, it is very sad but true.
