If I sleep in and miss saturday morning mass, I often attend the Saturday vigil Mass at 5:15pm. And as is often the case, I would also attend Mass the very next day (of course, I would re-hear all the readings, and in some cases the very same homily).

If I receive the Eucharist at the Vigil Mass, would I be precluded from receiving the Eucharist on Sunday as well? I realize that the Church does not allow one to receive the the Eucharist twice in the same day.

thx

The Church does allow you to recieve twice in the same day. (And also at a Sunday Vigil and again on Sunday.)

Im sorry I don’t have the documentation, but I’m sure someone who does will come along.

Nevermind, I found it:

1982 Canon Paragraph 917
Can. 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 921, §2.
One can recieve the second time, as long as it is in the context of the Holy Mass.

And the third time for Viaticum:
Can. 921
§1. The Christian faithful who are in danger of death from any cause are to be nourished by holy communion in the form of Viaticum.
§2. Even if they have been nourished by holy communion on the same day, however, those in danger of death are strongly urged to receive communion again.

As has been posted, it is ordinarily permitted to the faithful to receive a second time in a single day.

But more to the point: Saturday and Sunday are two distinct days and the faithful are ordinarily permitted to receive twice on each day. (ie, if you were of a mind to or if circumstances required, you could receive at a 5pm anticipated Mass, then again at the 6.30pm anticipated Mass at a neighboring parish, then again at 9am on Sunday and a final time at 11am Sunday)
