Greetings all =]

This saturday is obviously the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven; I will be staying around my Catholic girlfriend’s house this friday night, and imagine I would have to leave the following day as they head to the Mass. I want to take the RCIA starting in September, and have attended a regular Mass with them before - am I allowed to attend this with them, too? I would like to, as my first Mass with them moved me greatly, though I fear the response I may get upon asking them themselves.

What would your thoughts be…?

First of all congraulations on starting RCIA. Of course you can attend Mass on Saturday morning. Our Lady would be so honored and pleased that you wish to show her the love and respect anyone should have for their mother. It is such a beautiful feast day and your girlfriend and her family would love to have you go with them

Absolutely!! You can do everything they do, except receive Communion. You will have that to look forward to next year. Welcome Home! :angel1:

Thanks be to you both; this makes me feel a lot better about the confusion I had going on! =]

I now can’t wait to attend Mass again, and especially on such a Holy Day. I hope it will confirm in my mind exactly where I am going in my life.

Thank you

If you are in the US the obligation to attend Mass celebrating the Assumption has been abrogated. The US bishops have decided that when holy days other than the Immaculate Conception or Christmas fall on a Saturday or Monday there is no obligation to attend Mass. So the likelihood is that your girlfriend and her family will not be attending Mass on Saturday.

Ah sorry, I live in the UK =] I understand that even still the saturday mass is occasionally shunted to the sunday anyway, to maintain high attendance, but…seeing as I’d like to attend, it’s to my benefit it be on the saturday 😉 Thanks for the replies, all1
