Dear Brothers and Sisters,

By God’s Grace, may we continue to learn from the wisdom of God’s saints, like St. Louis de Montfort as God gave him abundant grace to write his treatise on “True, Devotion to the Blessed Virgin”, writing in Chapter 2:
It is more humble to have an intermediary with Christ
  1. It is more perfect because it supposes greater humility to approach God through a mediator rather than directly by ourselves. Our human nature, as I have just shown, is so spoilt that if we rely on our own work, effort and preparedness to reach God and please Him, it is certain that our good works will be tainted and carry little weight with Him. They will not induce him to unite himself to us or answer our prayers. God had his reasons for giving us mediators with him. He saw our unworthiness and helplessness and had pity on us. To give us access to His mercies He provided us with powerful advocates, so that to neglect these mediators and to approach His infinite holiness directly and without help from any one of them, is to be lacking in humility and respect towards God who is so great and holy. It would mean that we have less esteem for the King of kings than for an earthly king or ruler, for we would not dare approach an earthly king without a friend to speak for us.

The Lord Jesus told us Himself how important humility is to Him in the Gospel of Matthew in telling His disciples:
Take my yoke upon you and Learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Mt 11:29)

Mary His Mother is His most perfect disciple we hear her in the Gospel of Luke:
And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For He has looked upon the humility of His handmaid behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed."

We are living in an age when many have such an exalted image of “self” that they do not understand the beauty of humility because they do not seek to know the Truth Who is Jesus, as Mary knew Him and was known by Him.

St. Louis de Montfort followed the Wisdom given him by the Holy Spirit, and listened to God’s Word as Mary did, and as he now is encouraging us, in his writing to “rid ourselves of the spirit of the world which is opposed to the Spirit of Christ”.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithfull; kindle in us the fire of Your Love. You were sent by The Eternal Father and The Incarnate Son to bring us into ALL Truth, open our hearts, and by your power enable us to die to self and the world that we may live in Christ.

Jesus we trust in You! Mary, Mother of the Church pray for us. St. Louis de Montfort and all you holy Saints and angels pray for us.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your "hearts’ with me and with others who may read this thread. Humility is truly beautiful as we see this Virtue so tenderly and sacrifically lived in the lives of Jesus and Mary.

St. Louis de Montfort in writing his Act of Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary reveals how his own heart and mind and soul were transformed by Grace from Jesus through Mary. Many times throughout his treatise St. Louis helps us understand by God’s Grace, how one can be fearless in the spiritual battle against satan, while remaining in Jesus, humble sons and daughters of God.

Hopefully you are prayerfully reading – or perhaps re-reading – his treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin. and pondering the Truth he heard with the “ears of his heart”. The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father and Son to bring us into all Truth, so please let us pray for one another, for the Church and all those in most need of God’s Mercy that we may hear His Truth and humbly do the Truth we hear.

Do you know the specific source of these words? Is it from one of St. Augustine’s books or letters or ??? It is one of the best descriptions of how important humility is! No wonder St. Louis de Montfort stresses it in writing about True Devotion to Jesus through Mary.

I think your quote from St Vincent de Paul got cut off somehow; can you fix it? I can “imagine” some endings to the sentence, but can’t edit another member’s post,

Ah but clicking on the link, I found the entire sermon: First paragraph contains the rest of St. Vincent de Paul’s quote as well as your source for St. Augustine’s quote:
Humility is powerful. That’s not how we would normally think about it, but it’s true. St. Vincent de Paul once wrote, “The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is humility. For, as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.” Yet, to the world, humility is often regarded more as a vice than a virtue. The world sees humility as submission and weakness. It is a good subject fo a homily, but I wish authors would give more details on where they found their quotes such as in books the saints have written or other approved sources that are authentic. Sometimes I think St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta could not have said all the words attributed to her, when so many people write that she said one thing or another and never tell readers how they know she said those words.

I like to be sure on some things. 🙂

Thanks for your “Faith-Full” heart and your devotion to Jesus through Mary. Today, I want to continue with St. Louis de Montfort’s words on the importance of humility in his treatise on “True Devotion”. Today (Aug.14) is the Memorial of St. Maximillian Kolbe who so loved and honored Jesus through Mary, calling Mary the “Immaculata”.
