Is it true what I read about Augustine. Did he say something like women where stupid or something like that? If so what did he mean back then?

Bill, if you read something someplace, it would help the rest of us if you cited whatever you were referring to. For the sake of discussion, I, for example, have no idea of what you read. If you read it, then why are you questioning it?

It’s hard to discuss, and not a helpful thread topic, to assume that your readers know exactly what you’re talking about. augustine is credited with writing some 4.5 million words of text. Your question requires someone who is familiar with those 4.5 million words OR unless you give us a hint at what you are talking about.

It’s been so long that I can’t remember. I am sure if he was not fond of women as intellectuals it was because of his time. I don’t know if this is a church source or not. I know Augustine had his problems staying away from the women in that regard but; My real question is, what does the church say about Augustine being what they would call today, anit-women. Does that make any sense?

Bill

If you were in my parish or even the whole diocese, I’d say, look around you.

There are many women in many varied roles in the church. The Church has established that women cannot be ordained as deacons, priests, or bishops.

Neither lay men or lay women are permitted to preach during Mass.

Having said that, I recommend you read 1 Co 14, where it says we all (women and men) should pray for the gift of prophecy, which is to say, to understand and spread the gospel in our lives and in our spheres of influence.
