Authority regarding doctrinal differences...

A question for my non-Catholic friends:

Who or what, in the end, has the final authority to arbitrate, evaluate and resolve doctrinal differences? Let’s assume it’s not the Catholic Church, for this thread. No need to bring the CC up when answering the question; you don’t believe it’s the CC anyway, so it shouldn’t be a big deal.

For Catholics, it is the pope and Magisterium. For LCMS, it is the Lutheran Confessions and the leaders of our synod. Orthodoxy relies on its Bishops, I would think, in much the same way. In the end, many of us rely on the Church, as it is developed and practiced in the institutional organization to which we belong, and not individual interpretation.
