I thought there were restrictions on mental disabilities, it’s great all the same

From the article, it sounds like he wasn’t diagnosed until well after being ordained. His autism must have been mild enough that it wasn’t noticed by anyone in his formation that he had a mental disability.

I wonder how many other undiagnosed autistic priests are out there, since a lot of them seem to have struggles with “social communication” that only come to light after their flock gets upset and complains.

The other two that I know of were diagnosed well after ordination, as well. Screening needs to be added to the list of tests for Seminary. Would help with addressing communication deficits before the faithful complain.

I know of an autistic woman who was sent home before final vows. She got diagnosed after leaving the convent.

My own son seems to be responding to the Ignatian spirituality he’s been exposed to.

Autism doesn’t mean you don’t have a vocation, it just means there needs to be remediation during formation.

I wonder how many saints of the past would now have some kind of diagnosis. Sheesh.

May he be sheltered in Mother Church’s loving embrace. It’s a pity her Holy Spouse gives their children, especially their priests, these afflictions.
