We don’t hear much about sin anywhere, not even in church. What we do hear has no consequences. Actors confess on Oprah’s couch and we applaud their courage and feel sorry for their victimhood. Many Catholics I know feel assured of their Salvation much the way Fundamentalists do.
or rather we are far more aware of social sin, the sins of society in general, which we can blame on somebody else–the other political party, dead people, or George Bush for example. But we completely ignore personal sin any more, as people no longer sin they simply adopt alternative lifestyles. Ignoring the fact that hell is the alternative lifestlye to heaven.
as many parents today seem to define their duty as protecting their child from the natural consequences of his own actions the situation can only get worse.
