This story was in the London Free Press today. A baby born in London, Ontario, Canada last April shocked doctors when it was discovered Emylea Tharby developed inside her mother’s abdominal cavity instead of inside the womb.

Doctors at St. Joseph’s Health Care told her the birth of the little girl was one in 10 million; worldwide there have only been four documented cases. :bowdown2: All praise and glory to God.

Sorry, the story was not published online.

The girlfriend of the son of a nurse that I used to work with discovered that she was pregnant when she went into labor. She had no idea, because the baby developed on the outside of her uterus. When I was in college, my anatomy/physiology prof told us about a woman who’s baby developed on her liver.

So stuff like this happens more than we think.

Here’s a story of a woman who had triplets; one developed inside the fallopian tube and survived after it ruptured.

In an ectopic pregnancy the woman’s fallopian tube ruptures, usually leading to loss of the pregnancy and massive internal bleeding which can prove fatal for the mother.

But in Ronan’s case, when the tube ruptured the embryo attached itself to the mother’s uterus and created its own “womb”, with its own blood supply, in the mother’s abdominal cavity. Scans at the time showed only a normal twin pregnancy and it was not until much later doctors discovered the truth.

This miracle baby attached herself to her mother’s liver!
Reports from South Africa say Nhlahla, whose name means “luck” in Zulu, is only the fourth baby ever to survive such a pregnancy.

In all, there have only been 14 documented cases of a child developing in this way. Nhlahla was born after specialists performed a difficult operation to deliver her on Tuesday.
