The games meant to break the ice between women who might not know each other were usually very lame, but were bridal showers really that awful? Were bachelor’s parties really something that needed to be imitated? It’s not as if women can’t get together the way women typically do after they’re married.

It is OK to announce that you are aware of the popularity of strippers and/or trying to get the bride-to-be drunk at these bachelor parties for women, not to mention other disgusting behavior, and to warn anyone who might be contemplating springing such a thing on you that you will refuse to have anything to do with such a thing, period, no argument, and don’t make you mad by asking. Tell them that this is the only warning they will get, but that it would be by far preferable to do nothing at all than to do that, and don’t let anyone foolish enough to try it anyway claim she wasn’t warned.

I went to a bachelorette party where there was a stripped included. The bride and most of her friends were all petty faithful Catholics, but the maid of honor who organized the party was not. Long story short the bride was really pissed when the stripper came out, she stood up, she turned her back to the stripper, sat far from him then took her phone out and started playing with the phone and ignoring the stripper. The stripper kinda tried to call her attention but she did quite a good job ignoring him so he gave up and came to bug the rest of the girls. I cannot hold my tongue so I told the guy that he was really gross and I thought this was pathetic (I know I was mean but again…I can’t hold my tongue) and after that I sat back and started played with my smart phone and checking Facebook. The majority of the girls in the party also took their phones out and either were ignoring the stripper or had an angry face. Even one girl took a rosary out of her pocket book and started praying in front of the stripper and told him she was going to pray for.his conversion ti which the bride said she happily would join her!!! (You all can imagine the stripper’s.face) . The stripper didn’t last in that party twenty minutes! After noticing that 95% of the girls were brutally ignoring him and that the bride was busy praying for his conversion, he got pissed, called us a bunch of boring prudes and left. We spent the rest of the party cracking up laughing about us being a.stripper’s worst nightmare :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
That is perfect. Who knows, with his mother’s prayers added in, maybe he did repent from that line of work and accept a conversion of heart! (The vehemence of the way he renounced someone praying for him does make one wonder, doesn’t it? Methinks there is reason for hope is such a deeply-felt protest!)

Funny story.

My only question. Who in the world was her maid of honor? Someone she met the day before?

Seriously. How ignorant or just plain irresponsible can you be to book a male stripper for a bachelorette party where not only is the bride a devote Christian but half the party goers are too?

I’d assume the maid of honor is a spot held for the bride’s sister, closest cousin or best girl friend (or guy friend…whatever works) and that would mean that this person knows the bride better then most people (maybe even better then the spouse to be).

I get the fact that this maid of honor wasn’t a Christian but this isn’t her party…it’s the brides. My sister was my maid of honor. She is not a practicing Christian in any sense of the word. It’s sort of a mute point because she thinks strippers are gross too but even if she didn’t she knows how I feel too.

She put together a party that suited me perfectly. A small gathering with close friends at a favorite restaurant with good food and drinks.

What was this maid of honor thinking?

As one who has been to bachelor parties that involved strippers, I can honestly say that they’re really not any fun. From a sinful/non-Catholic perspective, they sound exciting. In real life…meh. A waste of time. Just tell the host that you’re not interested in the girlie bars and let them deal with it however hey want

The maid of honor was.the bride’s cousin. The bride only has one brother so she choose her female cousin who grew up pretty close to her as maid of.honor. Apparently this girl’s father was one of those who believed that religion is indoctrination of kids therefore they should choose them by themselves as adults, so she pretty much is an agnostic, but again growing up she was her closest female relative. The bride is pretty active in a pro-life group at her parish (that is where we became friends) and a lot of the girls invited were from the parish and from the pro- life group, so yes the maid of honor did know very clearly that most of the people attending were religious people, and the bride expressly told her before hand she didn’t want any strippers or anything sexually explicit so I agree that was so irresponsible on her part. I too wondered what in the world the MOH was thinking when I saw that stripper coming out.

I have the feeling that maybe she wanted to get “funny” in the sense of “oh I am having all these religious fanatics n here, let’s tempt them” or “let’s scandalized them”, something along those lines, or maybe she thought she could convince us that that was cool, maybe  but whatever her thinking was she crashed a big wall :rotfl:

Your bachelorette party sounds wonderful to me :D! I am doing something similar. We are going to Rino’s in East Boston to enjoy lots of delicious pasta 😉 and I hope no one decides to bring strippers or any weird things as both my grandmother and MIL are going, otherwise the person with the idea and the stripper would be in serious trouble.

Hoe did the maid of honor, who organised the stripper, handle the turn of events??

An awful lot of Christians don’t include their religion in their daily lives and habits.Knowing the bride and a lot of the attendees are Christian probably didn’t make a difference as the MOH assumed that those gals were like many other Christians who do as they please.

Plus, a lot of people say things like “Oh, don’t get a stripper! snicker” when they really mean “Of course I want a stripper for the party, but I can’t openly say it!” Kind of like the old cliche of a wife saying not to get her anything for Valentine’s day/anniversary/whatever and then getting pissed when the husband takes them at their word and doesn’t get them anything. So, (smart) husbands get something to avoid the drama.

The last party I went to that had strippers wasn’t a bachelor party. It was supposed to be just a birthday party/guys’ night out. The featured entertainment wasn’t mentioned in advance. I think part of the the motivation for having the strippers was because the guys who organized the party knew I no longer did that sort of thing and they knew I was going to be stuck there (I was the designated driver for the guest of honor and a few others). It was in the dead of winter so they figured I’d have to stay in the hotel room while the strippers performed. Instead, I went outside as soon as they showed up. There were three strippers and the guys had way too much alcohol and money on hand, so the act went on for well over an hour. It was in the single digits outside so I wasn’t too pleased by the time it was over. As a result, I no longer go to guy parties with this group.

I’m sorry but I find this story over the top.

It would have been just as effective, if not more so, to simply tell the MOH or whoever arranged the “entertainment” quietly but very firmly that the bride and her guests find it extremely offensive and to have him leave NOW. He probably would have been gone in 2 minutes rather than 20. Adding to the drama by pretending to ignore him just goads him to increase his efforts to gain attention by acting even more salaciously. I doubt that humiliating him is in the best Christian tactic and probably did nothing to win his soul.

marymary, you and your friends were fantastic. I think you did great. Hopefully, you planted a seed in this young man’s head.
