Hey guys,

Lately I’ve sometimes been having dreams about sex and different stuff like that, as soon as I wake up I realize it was wrong and feel a little guilty about it. Even though I was asleep and not thinking clearly, I still feel it was wrong. Should I confess this? OR Does this count as adultery?

Have a good day

For goodness sakes, it’s NOT adultery. You were asleep!

As to the confession-well, you have nothing to lose, so knock yourself out.

Since you said you were asleep and not thinking clearly, and that when you woke up you realized it was wrong, then you are not culpable. If you had continued to deliberately think impure thoughts after you woke up because of the pleasure it gives you, then it would be a sin.

It is always wise to turn to to the Lord immediately and say a prayer,…that shows the Lord you have no desire to enjoy what might be a temptation.

Yes remember that there are two important elements that have to be present for imputing guilt or assigning resposibility- Knowledge and Voluntariness. Since you were asleep, strictly speaking you did not voluntarily choose to think impure thoughts. So you cannot be guilty or held responsible for that mental act.

Only God knows and understands why you’re dreaming these things. I suffer from nightmares almost every night in which I am doing terrible things to the people that are closest to me. I figure maybe God shows me these previews of a sinful life in my sleep so I get a sample of how I’d feel after when I wake up. Through this I know that I am further away from ever living that way. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

You were asleep, therefore your thoughts were not willed. You did not sin at all.
