What’s the point of discussing all of this? When do we stop?

Maybe Roman’s persecuted Christians. Maybe Catholic’s killed heretics. Maybe Anglican’s killed Catholics. Maybe Hitler killed jews. But when does it stop?

When do Christians say, “I don’t know if it happened or not. If it did, it was wrong. We are sinners. Please forgive us”? When do non-believers of good will look at men like Pope John Paul II and St. Maxamillion Kolbe and women like Mother Theresa and say, “You know, whatever happened in the past, these are good men with good hearts.” When do we move on from what happened 1000 years ago, or 400 years ago.

I’ve almost killed people by driving recklessly. I’ve purchased and ingested enough drugs in my teens and twenties to keep a small Central American cartel in AK-47’s and ammunition for a decade. Maybe you should all come to where I live and burn my house down for it. Or maybe all of us should march over to an abortion clinic and blow it up. Or maybe we should fly some planes into some buildings.

Man, let it go.

Seriously what is all of this bickering going to solve? Non-Christians don’t care about the Church and non-Catholic Christians aren’t really proving anything against the Church by saying “look look you got sinners”! Well duh every Church has them and if you have been around long enough you’re going to have some real ripe ones. Heck if the sinful actions of Church leaders were the focal point of my faith and where to put it then shoot I would have never been Christian after hearing that Judas betrayed Christ, Peter denied Him or when the other 9 high tailed it out of the area as Christ was being tortured. First Bishops didnt even have the nerve to stand up for the Messiah so please enlighten me as to when the Church has ever after Christ had anything but weak sinful man as its leaders?

The Church is going to have scandal and the Church is going to have sinners in it: It’s a fact of life.

@OP: Tell you grandma “let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

In light of all the evidence presented you actually came to the conclusion that you can refute her when her claims are actually correct, more or less?

Well done, it takes a special kind to twist the truth blatantly.👍

To all the people asking about the bickering and asking when do we stop, I don’t think anyone is criticizing the Church NOW for their actions, on the plus side I think the Church since the start of the 20th century or so has shown great moral fortitude for the most part, and I can’t speak ill of any of the popes since Pius XI (as far as I’ve looked in to them)

It just gets to me (and many others) when people tend to ask “Did this really happen in the past?” and you get a variety of Catholics either completely denying it (almost like the naysayers to the Holocaust), or trying to lessen the severity of the Church’s involvement like it almost didn’t happen, or they were trying their best not to be involved, these people are either completely uninformed, don’t want to know the truth, or are just outright liars because they can’t come to accept the facts of what happened so many centuries ago.

Some people will get downright nasty, like one person already here has, twisting and shouting. Like it’s my fault that the Church was involved in this fiasco, and it’s all an error of not seeing things in the light of a by-gone status quo?

I don’t think these questions will ever stop coming, and instead of denying it, I think people should admit it happened and point to the better things the Church authorities have done, of which there are many.
