Recently I’ve been havig bad thoughts about The Father. I realize they are wrong and incorrect, but they’ve affected my respect and fear of Him. I tried to repent for these thoughts, but the thoughts still plague me. They aren’t intrusive thoughts, by the way. In mass today, there was a reading about the wrath of GOD, and how he is of compassion. I was thinking to myself, how can a loving GOD can be wrathful? After the reading, we all said Thanks be to GOD. I then wondered, how can we be thankful for someone who might punish us eternally? Granted, He can also raise us up eternally, but how can we be thankful for the part about His wrath? I’m sorry, but this is just hard for me to wrap my mind around. If you can help me with this, that would be great. Thanks so much, and GOD bless you!

“Divine wrath” is a human way of referring to God’s hatred of sin, and for the consequences of choosing evil over good. It does not literally mean that God has moods. If he did not hate evil he would not be good.

Thanks so much for clarifying it for me! God Bless you!

Time is the measurement of change. God is both eternal and unchanging— one can not be one, without the other. For something, or someone to be truly eternal, it must have no beginning and no end.*

God does not change, therefore, time cannot describe God. God has no beginning and no end.

Yet, even if God does not change, he still acts— a great mystery. From all eternity, God the Father has begot, is begetting and will beget Jesus Christ. From all eternity, God willed that his second person would become incarnate in a Man. God did not change, creation changed. It may seem, at times that God has moods, and the Bible even says things like God changed his mind.** But that is just people trying to grapple with who God is.
  • Eternal life does not mean that we become eternal. We have a beginning, and in Christ, we will have no end. Our life does not become eternal, but we will share in the eternal life of God.
** The Bible is not wrong to say things like God changed his mind. The Bible is 100% true and without err. We must learn to embrace the mystery of God and the way God reveals himself in Scripture. God progressively reveals himself to us. He does not reveal himself to us all at once.
