Hi Everyone,

I have for the very first time in my life, heard of the Bahai Faith today. I guess this has been around for a long time, coming out of Persia and having been started by some prophet. I went online to find out what this is all about as I enjoy finding out about other religions and their beliefs. For some reason, I can only find pro-Bahai information and not any kind of objective views on it. Is this actually a religion or a heresey? What are your thoughts on this?
 
What I have been told, is that it believes that all the religions come from and go to God… Of course this is nonsense when you look at the Gospels.
 
A long time? According to Wikipedia, the most unbiased source on the internet, it’s only been around since the 19th century.
 
As far as I’ve been able to figure the religion out it kind of a hold hands and sing kum by ya and everything will be fine. A friend told me once that they accept parts of nearly all religions, but refuse to acknowledge the points where they contradict.

Well, to some people, 150 years is a long time :rolleyes:

I was a Baha’i for a couple years back in the early '70s, back in my stupid period (i.e., before the Holy Spirit jerked the slack out of my leash). It’s a very legalistic religion in its own way (certain prayers at certain times of the day, etc.). What drove me out was the fact that it has no provision for the forgiveness of sins, and at the time the only English translation of their most holy bood (Kitab’i’Aqdas) was by a non-Baha’i, and therefore was forbidden to Baha’i’s. If you wanted to read the most holy Baha’i book, you had to be able to read Farsi.

They are a very nice bunch of people; their religion has its world HQ in Haifa, Israel (no, they are not Jews; they are actually a spin-off of Islam, as the Sufi Order also is.)

There are a lot of Arabic vocabulary and grammatical constructs in Farsi. In MSA the words would be the same, but there would be a definite article before the second one, and the pronunciation would be “Kitaabu-l-Aqdas.” Written (in translit) KTAB ALAQDS.

“God is most glorious”?

Same form as “Allahu Akbar,” only using the elative from of the word from from BH’, which has the basic meaning of “glory.”

The name of the Baha’i religion’s prophet is usually spelled Baha’u’llah, and it means “the glory of God.” In Arabic only the first apostrophe would be used; in Arabic translits, the apostrophe stands for “hamza,” or the glottal stop, which is considered a consonant in Arabic.

But I digress…

I have a friend of this faith. She is orginally from Iran. Many of her family still live in Iran. The are called “Christians” in that part of the world because they are not Muslim. They have and still undergo persecution from the Muslim government and my friend has brought some of her nephews and nieces here as refugees. (However, this is very difficult now since 9-11.) I have talked to her about her faith and they are very loving people but they do not believe Jesus is the way of Salvation and Eternal life. I just want to say that we are a blessed country to be able to practice our personal faiths free from a Theocratic Government.
