Does anyone have an original copy ? I just love this book and the way it explains the Catholic Faith in such a beautifully simplistic way that includes wonderful drawings. I can just look at this book and say “This Is Why I’m Catholic”.

We bought a set back in the '70’s so we could teach our 7 kids. Its a great series.

Unfortunately neither the on-line version nor the TAN version have the exercises for the student at the end of each lesson, which are in the original. Those, applying the lesson, are very useful. I have the original Number 1 [with a purple paper cover] from which I learned in the 40’s, and Number 4 [Hard bound with a brown cover] which I inherited from my wife’s family. I think she or her sisters must have used it in the 50’s. They are my best references when I want a concise statement of Church Doctrine.

I actually bought for my little sister who is thinking about becoming Catholic and one of my dear friends who is a priest told me to get that book not only for my little sister, but for myself. We have them at our Catholic bookstore all the time. 🙂

God Bless,
Nikita, op

I have Fr. McGuire’s Baltimore Catechism #2 1941 in front of me as I answer this.

What a wonderful book. I just dug mine out of a box in the attic and am going to read it again. It’s an original Number Two complete with scribbled notes inside, e.g., Steal not this book for fear or shame, for ss kelly is not your name. And when you die the Lord will say “Where is the book you stole that day?” And when you say “I do not know”, the Lord will say “Please step below.”
