Does anyone here use the Baltimore Catechism in cathechesis?

I have only ever seen one, but noone uses it around here. A darn shame.

The Baltimore Catechism was THE book used when I converted back in the 1950’s. It is outdated, and it is no longer either used, or approved for use.

I don’t, but I know many that do. Most are very traditional families that don’t like the new Catechism.

The Baltimore Catechism can be found at most Catholic Bookstores.

As a supplimential teaching aid one could still use the Catechism.

Back in the Stone Age when I attended Catholic schools, we memorized the Baltimore Catecism. That seems quaint in these days and times, I know. But at least we knew the difference between right and wrong. I fear this is no longer the case, especially when I read some of the questions on this forum.

The Baltimore Catechism is a splendid catechism overall.

It is both approved for use, and timelessly helpful.

I am using it as a suppliment for my CCD students. The copy I have is updated to after Vatican II (1975 I think) and what it has is valid. Our Director of Adult Religious Education thinks highly of it.

Buy a copy and use it to teach your kids. It is excellent and the retention by the Q and A format is fantastic.

If schools still used it and students were required to memorize it like I was things would be way different in the Church. (some schools are returning to it)

Here is is online.

Here is another good one:

JESUS, THE CATECHISM, AND ME
by Rev. Robert J. Levis, Ph.D. A brief companion to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and a local catechism fully approved by ecclesiastic authorities. This book is most helpful to students in upper grade school, high school students and candidates for Confirmation. With precise question-and-answer format, this book is concise and easy to use. Paperback. 134 pages.
