It is a tragedy, and I’m praying for a peaceful resolution. It reminds me all too much of the riots we had in Los Angeles just over 20 years ago now.

Words can’t describe how horrible this is.

Some good news, I saw a lady, who the media is saying may be the boy’s mother, beating on a kid and making him leave the riots.

23 years ago tomorrow…

We moved to Long Beach 23 years ago May 3rd.

And for some reason people are saying that everyone’s approval of this mother’s actions is another form of subtle racism. Which is a load of moonshine - we’re just pleased to see a mother watching out for her child’s safety and keeping him out of trouble.

I understand that the rioters have a reason for their behavior, but ends do not justify the means. And the ends, in this case, seem to be a lot of destruction and furthering a disturbing divide in our nation. This is not going to make things any better. It is going to do the opposite.

After what happened in Missouri, New York, and Florida, are we at all surprised? Baltimore is another area in the US where police oppression has gone out of hand.

I’m surprised if any American has a positive view of police anymore at this point. I sure don’t. One of the major issues in the 2016 election will be how to overhaul the criminal justice system.

I haven’t heard that one, but chastising your child isn’t racism. People need dictionaries thrown at them.

It’s not “beating” him. It is actually PARENTAL DISCIPLINE.That Mom should be the poster girl for the African American community. She set an example of what parents (more importantly FATHERS) should be doing.

Because her actions may cause other parents and kids to think twice and do the right things…it won’t be long before the liberal media begins to paint her as a “child abuser” and a terrible Mother…just wait.

The problem here is that you are assuming that AA parents don’t discipline their children and that liberals don’t discipline their children. She was the lucky one, she actually SAW her child on tv and was able to find him and bring him home. I’m sure that the vast majority of mothers in that community would have done the same thing given the chance. In fact, there may have been more out there, they just didn’t get filmed.

I have no problem with what she did. Where I come from, a beating isn’t a bad thing. I got beat plenty of times and it wasn’t abuse.

Also, stereotypically speaking, AA people don’t think whites beat/spank/whoop their kids, AA do, though.

I haven’t heard anyone complain that she forced her child home.

What I am assuming is what I see on TV. ONLY ONE Mom gets out there and does something. What else am I to think?

There is obviously little parental discipline in that community. There is also little respect for private property as well as authority. This starts at home. I would venture to say that IF the vast majority of Mothers in that community even knew what was going on they would have been out there along with their kids helping themselves to the spoils of the riot.

Now IF there were, in fact, more Mom’s out there dragging their kids home by the ear…why didn’t they get filmed? Could it be because that is not exactly how the liberal media wants this to play out?

I’m guessing there are quite a lot of moms that are LIVID that their kids weren’t allowed to stay on their buses to get home. I’m also sure that there are a lot of parents who didn’t think that their kids would ever act like this, who had no idea how their teens would react when their freedom was deprived by the police department.

A kid who throws a brick through a store window…FOR WHATEVER REASON…needs to be deprived of his freedom.

The kid on Home Alone 2 threw a brick through a store window to set off the alarm when the bandits were robbing the toy store. He shouldn’t be deprived of his freedom. So I can’t agree with the “FOR WHATEVER REASON” part.

I see your point, but how is that going to change/help the kid? If anything a term in jail will only make them a better criminal with more friends.

For proof of this, just look at how full all the jails are…obviously putting people in cages does not reduce or stop the criminal behavior, people STILL murder, STILL steal, STILL cheat, etc etc. if prison worked why are so many people still offending? Its pretty clear it has not, so why keep the doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result (btw, that is the definition of insanity) LOL.

Its 2015, Im sorry but I find it hard to believe in ALL these years, no one has thought of a better solution to this problem…(if so, we are a pretty stupid race of beings LOL.)

A police force that would deprive teens of their freedom (this happened BEFORE anything was thrown) should be deprived of their freedom. Better yet, lets have them reverse roles. Let the teens corral the officers (and the elected officials who thought this would be a good idea) and not let them go home. And let’s do it right at dinner time.

I see your point, but how is that going to change/help the kid?
Except the point isn’t valid, since the officers deprived the students of the freedom BEFORE anything had happened. And, in fact, created the conditions that caused the teens to act out in frustration. (And please, I’m speaking only of the incident at Mondawmin Mall.)

The most brilliant move ever - a bunch of kids pop off about a purge, so the Baltimore police decide to keep them all together in the area and not let them go home. Ummm… NOT.
A photograph of the April 25 rioters standing on a Baltimore police car was superimposed with the text “All HighSchools Monday @3 We Are Going To Purge From Mondawmin To The Ave, Back To Downtown #Fdl” (“Purge” being a reference to the film series)[31] and distributed on social media[32] and as flyers.[33] In response, Mondawmin Mall was closed at 2:15 p.m.[34] and police in riot gear were deployed to the area. In preparation for the ‘purge’ police shut down the Mondawmin metro stop and also blockaded many of the nearby streets.[35] As a result, students from Frederick Douglass High School, which is across the street from Mondawmin Mall, had considerable difficulty leaving the area when their classes ended an hour after the “purge” began, and contributed to the swelling crowd.[35][36]
According to eyewitness reports,[35] expecting the “purge” to start at 3 pm, Baltimore police pre-emptively de-boarded all buses going through the area, shut down the nearby Mondawmin Metro station and cordoned off the area around the mall. Eyewitnesses saw police and were suspiciously accosting all students, who were detained in that general area. The police, in full riot gear, detained the students for a full half-hour before the first brick was thrown. Meghann Harris, a teacher at nearby Frederick Douglass High School, said on Facebook, “If I were a Douglass student that just got trapped in the middle of a minefield BY cops without any way to get home and completely in harm’s way, I’d be ready to pop off, too.”[37]
Initially 75–100 people who appeared to be high school students began throwing bricks and bottles at police near Mondawmin Mall,[42] and the police responded by throwing rocks and bricks back at the students
Some may scoff at Wiki as a source, but ever piece of the article has references.

Does any of this make rioting justified or okay? NO. But there’s no value in elevating one side or the other on some kind of pedestal because they were both behaving in deplorable ways during the entire incident.

Yup. This is why I took exception to the “What tribe are you?” thread. We are all human beings, created by God and in His image. Yet, all we seem to want to do is figure out who is like me so we can stay safe from the ubiquitous “them”. I can’t believe there is a single person on this earth that I don’t have at least ONE thing in common with!

Well, thankfully I know many people that I have lots in common with, but what really irks me, is that we, as a society, keep trying the same old things to deal with a wide range of problems, over and over again, expecting different outcomes…when history tells us it never works?? How can so many people not recognize this?

The rioter that was filmed slashing a fire hose has been charged.

Baltimore (WBFF) - Deputy State Fire Marshals Charged 22-year-old Greg Bailey Friday, and accused him of intentionally damaging a fire hose while firefighters were trying to extinguish a fire at a CVS pharmacy on Pennsylvania Avenue Monday night.

A fire spokesperson said puncturing the hose line caused the water pressure to drop immediately, and endangered the lives of firefighters at the scene. The spokesperson said firefighters were forced to withdraw and immediately look for another water supply source.

Bailey was already detained at the Baltimore City Detention Center on unrelated charges when an arrest warrant was served.

Investigators gave an assist to social media, after a Baltimore City Police officer recognized Bailey’s picture and contacted the State Fire Marshal’s office.
