Baptised for salvation?

What do you guys think of this…

We are baptized to cleanse the original sin of Adam. Our souls are born with that sin there for we are purified through baptism so that God’s judgement will not be upon us. After baptism we are held responsible for our sins. Ritualistic Baptism is not necessary if you profess faith in christ and accept his perfect sacrifice because now you are baptized in his blood. (like the criminal on the cross). But for infants and those too young to have faith in christ and also too young to sin, Baptism is necessary to cleanse of the sin they are born with, original sin.

Therefore, if not baptized as a baby and they die, they will not go to heaven? is this the catholic teaching of baptism?

Wrong. Ritualistic Baptism is ALWAYS necessary. This was solemnly defined at the Council of Trent: The pooring of water is the required norm in which the grace of baptism is confired. Baptism of blood is another valid form of ritualistic baptism… but it requires the death of the one being baptised (martyrdom.) The case of St. Dismus (repentant thief) is slightly different; even at the moment the new covenant of baptism had not yet been established. Dismus was still only bound by the old Jewish law.

The CCC answers this directly, but I’m too lazy to look up the exact quote right now. The church can not guarentee that those who die without baptism enter heaven, for obvious reasons. However it teaches that we “Trust the fate of these souls to a God who is all-merciful and all-loving.” There is hope for these souls yet, even if there is no definitive teaching on their ultimate destination.

Here is what the bible teaches about baptism and salvation.

Baptism is required for salvation. Baptism is NOT a work nor just a ritual. Baptism is the way that God gives us the grace of Justification which is the beginning of our salvation.

John 3:5 5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Rom 6:3-8 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Gal 3:26,27 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Welli guess my question then is, why do we make RCIA candidates wait until easter to get baptised? isn’t it enough that they made a decision to follow christ to be baptised. there were stories in the bible where thousands were baptised after hearing the word. probably the same day!

I believe that baptism washes original sin away, but is faith in christ enough to have you forgiven of all sin as an adult?
