When does “original sin” attach? At conception or birth.For a new born baby, Baptism only washes away Original Sin. They have no personal sin to wash away.

Yes an infant could be be “Baptized by Blood” if they are killed by a person because of the persons hatred for Christ.An infant can have no baptism of desire.
What about baptism of blood? Regardless of miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion, there is always blood. Isn’t the baptism of blood the explanation for the canonization of the Holy Innocents, those children murdered by Herod’s dictate following the birth of Christ?
And, of course, I rely ultimately on the infinite mercy of God.

What if a baby dies before it is able to be baptized, but the parents DID desire baptism for the baby?

I’ve had two different priests tell me that we (my husband and I) can have every hope that our 2nd child is in heaven with God, given that we had every desire to have him/her baptized after his/her birth. Unfortunately, s/he died in utero only 7-8 weeks after conception.
Parents make the decision to the child baptized since the child cannot consciously make that decision for his/herself. If the child cannot receive baptism through no fault of his/her own, and through no fault of the parents, it makes sense that God would recognize the parents’ desire to have their child baptized if it had been humanly possible.
We buried our child on the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord, and as God knows our hearts and minds, I’m sure God also knew of our 100% commitment to have our child baptized assuming s/he had not died (just as we are 100% committed to having this child baptized very soon after his/her birth).
