Baptism and God parents

Greetings,

If a child is going to be baptized in the one of the Eastern Churches, lets say the Ruthenian Church, can the child’s God parents be of the Latin Church?

I believe that whatever the rite of the father of the child belongs to, no matter what sui juris Church they are baptized in, they are automatically apart of the rite that their father belongs to.

Thanks for your response. I have a second question about a marriage rather than a baptism. My good friend and his wife are on a journey back to the Catholic Church of their childhood (they have been away maybe 5 or 6 years). Both have been baptized and have received the Sacraments of initiation in the Latin Church. They have children and have no previous marriages. Over the last few months they have been coming to the Divine Liturgy with my wife and our children. Both are drawn to the Ruthenian Church and are talking about having their marriage convalidated.

My question is this, first, they are both Latin Catholics. Can they have a marriage convalidated in the Eastern Church, in this case the Ruthenian Church, even though they are Latin?

(I’m sure I can speak to our parish priest but this was just on my mind :D)

I guess that was my only question.

They should talk to your parish priest, but in most cases one spouse has to be a member of the sui iuris Church for the marriage to be convalidated by the right bishop.
