And the big news apparently, is that the Pope gave the go ahead to mothers to breastfeed their babies. Comments? Experience?

And? I’m not sure what is new about that, since I know he’s said it before.

whats the big deal? its natural and how God created us…

Plus, I’m sure that most mothers who breast feed in Church are using a cover

And the reality is mother’s don’t need the Pope’s or anyone else’s permission to breastfeed— be they in church or elsewhere.

Would you rather a woman discreetly feed her baby, or have the baby wailing and screaming bloody murder?

I know I’d much rather have the woman feed the baby.

Plus, I love babies, and I love breasts. Whats not to love about a woman breastfeeding her baby? It’s a beautiful thing.

I personally wouldnt be offended even if she did it without covering. I’d be a bit taken aback, but then I’d just shrug and continue on.

It is a little startling for Americans to see all the paintings in Rome and throughout Europe of the Blessed Mother with her breast exposed, feeding the Child Jesus.
Americans are a strange paradox of an over-sexed society and puritanical inheritance.

Yep. Same goes for drinking. Can’t drink in public (in many places), can’t drink until you’re a few years into adulthood, a almost paranoid fear of alcohol in many religious circles…yet people, especially young people, go out and get “hammered” every weekend.

It’s good to know that the Pope approves explicitly, but I’ve been doing this in church for 15 years, as have generations of women before me. It is the usual method for feeding a baby and also works wonders to keep them calm, even if they aren’t hungry. Seems like a win for everybody.

Or not – not all babies will tolerate feeding with something over their faces. Either way should be no problem.
